The idea is to have less running daemons, thus less avenues for exploitation. IRC networks have traditionally been a hostile place for decades.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3822757291061444396.post-66373441946495766562011-08-03T12:09:59.430-05:002011-08-03T12:09:59.430-05:00Have you tried smuxi? It's got a client/server model whereby you install the server part on VPS/dedicated server/shell and then you configure the client to ssh to your shell and connect to the smuxi server process over that tunnel. It works pretty seamlessly, and can also use a "local" server to just work as a standard irc client. It's got messaging menu integration and everything! :)<br /><br />I've been using it for a few weeks now and it appears to work really well. Only thing that irks me when using it is whenever the client section reconnects to the server part it re-shows all the highlights that are in the channel's backlog, even if you acknowledged them before.Grahamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14548379474190644980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3822757291061444396.post-3927140772824610492011-08-03T10:07:07.713-05:002011-08-03T10:07:07.713-05:00Just wanted to mention that there are irssi script...Just wanted to mention that there are irssi scripts which enable desktop notifications for messages/hilights.Reza Arbabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00210791016287618374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3822757291061444396.post-26661950241791790322011-08-03T09:27:32.003-05:002011-08-03T09:27:32.003-05:00You don't really need the SSH tunnel (or keep-...You don't really need the SSH tunnel (or keep-one-running).<br /><br />Just enable SSL in bip and configure xchat2 to connect over SSL.Thierry Carrezhttp://fnords.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3822757291061444396.post-70946574588180475082011-08-03T09:22:36.836-05:002011-08-03T09:22:36.836-05:00Jorge-
